Step one: Finish creating my goals.
Yup, it’s November 7th (oops, now the 9th) and I haven’t solidified my creative goals for the month. I have ruled a couple things out, though, which I guess is sort of progress.
- I’m not going to do NaNoWriMo. I’d still love to try this some year, but it’s just not going to happen this time.
- No Thanksgiving themed crafts. I won’t have time with the custom order I have to finish.
I’m not even sure I’m in love with the idea of setting goals for creativity-related pursuits. Will it be limiting? Might I neglect something that could be really fun or cool because I’m focused on hitting a goal? I’m not sure. Of course, since I haven’t really set any goals yet, this is putting the cart ahead of the horse. But if there’s one thing I love, it’s extrapolating a massive web of hypothetical anxious concerns from one single, usually harmless, possibility.
What about you? Do you set goals for yourself in relation to crafts or art, or do you enjoy just letting the process flow? Or, do you find that goals don’t interfere with your creative process? Let me know in the comments below!
