Hello 2019! Yes, I know you’ve been here for over two weeks. No, I’m not surprised I’m just now writing this post, either.
I have a few craft-related goals for this year, nothing too wild, and frankly, nothing new. But, let’s detail what I’ll be procrastinating on this year, anyway.
- Stash-Busting: I have too much yarn. I have too much fabric. I had too much drawing paper, but a two year old armed with markers, crayons, and stuck inside when it’s cold burns through that pretty quickly. So, yay, it’s like she’s cleaning for me! Anyway, I’m not going to say I’m not going to buy any craft supplies this year, even though that would give us all a good laugh. I do, however, intend to cut back to only the “oh my gawd, that’s amazing” type purchases.
- Etsy: I’d like to add a couple new items every month to my shop. I plan to keep making (hopefully) beautiful things, but there are only so many handmade items I can pair with my wardrobe that’s almost entirely Star Wars and Nintendo t-shirts, so this is a good, fun, and challenging outlet for me.
- Sweater: I want to make myself one. One that doesn’t get halfway finished and torn out years later or just donated in a big pile of ugh. A good one, using good yarn, that makes me proud and makes me feel purty. I have my eye on this one.
- Pull Back and Branch Out: Wha? What I mean is, I’d like to pare down the time I spend on social media (looking at you, Instagram) so that instead of endless scrolling, I’m checking in, seeing what people are up to, maybe oogling some yarn (because let’s be realistic), and then moving on to other things that frankly are a better use of my time. That being said, I’m finding myself looking at a whole lot of artfully arranged skeins of yarn next to potpourri and hipsters wearing shawls (not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just…Ive seen it). It’s blurring together. It’s time to find something different so that the time I do spend on social media isn’t just more of the same.
In writing this, it’s become clear to me that my goal for 2019 is to be more intentional with my crafting. Well thought out, curated yarn/fabric/supply stash. Etsy shop stocking. A sweater that I finish come hell or high water. Getting out of my comfort zone (*coughcough* rut *cough*). I’m looking forward to a great year.
How about you? What do you want to be sure to accomplish in your crafting life? Or life in general? (I need to cut back on coffee, for example. Delicious, life-giving coffee.) Are there creators you think I should know about? Let’s chat in the comments!
